Journey to Rara Lake, an exclusive trek towards Nepal Far Western Himalaya to reach Nepal’s largest and scenic Lake Rara, where you feel heaven on earth within peaceful and most beautiful surrounding overlooking glorious panorama of snow clad peaks on this magnificent Journey to Rara Lake.

A moderate adventure of over a week duration offering great combination from local culture-age old Traditional life of Thakuri Malla natives, known as Khas (believed to be old and original people of Nepal) with their interesting custom of Hindu religion.

Journey to Rara Lake a most rewarding trekking with an adventure of a lifetime experience where walk lead you to a circuit around Jumla and Mugu district with fabulous panorama of mountains and dramatic country landscapes covered with enchanting forest of pines, spruce, firs, birch, oaks and rhododendron trees.

Truly an exceptional journey to Rara Lake, where adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepal far south west, and then flying over hills and mountains to reach at Jumla town where trek begins to Rara lake and its small national park.

Walk follows through ancient kingdom of Malla period at Sinja crossing high passes with enjoyable and pleasant time around Rara Lake with fascinating scenery, and then heading towards Jumla for the flight back to Kathmandu with ever lasting memories of Journey to Rara Lake trekking.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: On arrival in Kathmandu meet our staff for transfer to hotel

On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuwan International Airport received by our staff and guide with warm welcome and greetings and then transfer to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city. After checking into your rooms getting refreshed from Jet-Lag, a quiet environment after getting refreshed join at main hall or in lobby where our guide will provide briefing on treks-hotels with necessary information. Evening includes group dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with folk culture program with various dances of Nepal while having your authentic Nepalese dinner with local entertainment.

Day 02: Morning in Kathmandu with tour and fly to Nepalgunj city.

Morning after hearty breakfast depart from the hotel where our city and tour guide leads you for exciting guided sightseeing around Kathmandu. Although Kathmandu a metropolitan city still retains its ancient culture and traditional way of life with many world heritage sites to visit of great interest. After morning tour back to hotel for refreshment and then transfer to Kathmandu domestic air terminal for sweeping and scenic flight to land at Nepalgunj city airport, during air fabulous panorama of Himalayan peaks. On reaching at Nepalgunj airport transfer to near city hotels for overnight with time to browse around Nepalgunj city of strong Indian influence due to its closeness with Indian border of UP (Utter Pradesh) climate here of sub-tropical temperatures.

Day 03: Fly to Jumla 2,540 m then trek to Chauriya Chaur 3,055 - 04 hrs

After an early breakfast transfer to Nepalgunj airport for short connecting flight to land at Jumla, on arrival after 40 minutes on air with tremendous views of Western Himalayan peaks. At Jumla our other trekking staff will meet for the trek to Rara Lake, with time at Jumla which is a headquarter and administrative town of all Jumla areas, our walk starts heading past the town of Jumla with short climb walking through nice farm villages to our first overnight stop and camp at Chauriya Chaur a small nice farm village.

Day 04: Trek on route to Bota via Jaljala pass at 3,585 m - 06 hrs

With pleasant overnight camping in this nice village morning walks leads to a climb into rhododendron, birch and pine tree forest to reach a hill top. Actually a small pass called Jaljala Bhanjyang offers views of Kanjiroba Himal with Api and Shaipal peaks, from here on downhill for few hours to reach a green pasture to set our overnight camp, a nice spot within grassy meadow in the midst of nowhere.

Day 05: Trek to Bota 2, 680m via Sinja Khola 2,440 m -06 hrs.

Morning starts with a descend to Sinja area after walking for few hours on following Jaljala Khola (stream) downstream, and within pine forest to reach a terraced farmed village at Sinja (a historical place, which was once an old kingdom during Malla period from 7 th to 16 th Century), where you witness old withered, rundown, ruined temples and monuments with old sculptured stones at present covered with thick moss and weeds. After a pleasant stop continues walks upstream to a small village of Ganj, after a short break continue trek into an exciting gorge to reach our overnight stop at Bota village.

Day 06: Trek to Ghorasinga 3,050m near Rara Lake - 06 hrs.

As walk progress with steady walk after few days our route leads to Ghorasinga at the main entrance of Rara National Park, after leaving Sinja Khola follow a stream of Ghatte Khola due north, then taking a short climb to reach a scenic wide valley within farmlands a place with interesting and primitive water mill propelled by force of running water. From here then reaching our overnight camp at Ghorasinga located on the outer rim of Rara National Park, with a small police post. Afternoon with time for short walk or just relax and catch up with the views and enjoy the evening at Ghorasinga before our main highlight to Rara Lake

Day 07: Trek to Rara Lake 2,980m - 06 hrs.

Morning walk leads to our major destination at Nepal’s largest Lake Rara, as our trek starts heading uphill to Chuchemara Danda above 4,260 m high, offering grand views of the country landscapes with snowcapped peaks. From here on downhill into forest of bamboo and birch trees then crossing Khatyar Khola to reach our main highlight at Rara Lake for overnight stops.

Day 08: Rest day for excursion around the lake.

Rara Lake surrounded by beautiful coniferous forest within tranquil environment, certainly a great spot to visit once in your life time to explore this magnificent area where few foreign trekkers seldom venture. A climb to a wooden tower lead you with panorama of Rara Lake with surrounding beautiful rolling green hills including views of snowcapped peaks.

Day 09: Trek to Pina 2,440m via Jhyari 2,635 m- 05 hrs.

After an enjoyable and exciting around Rara Lake, our return journey leads via an alternative scenic and high route, as morning leads to a climb reaching at Jhyari a small farm village. From here walk follows Jhyari Beri Khola (stream) downstream for a while and then over a stream, and then heading towards Pina to complete the day walks with overnight stop at Pina.

Day 10: Trek to Chauta 2,807 m via Ghurchi Lagna pass 3,691 m / 12,180 ft

Morning starts towards uphill within cool shade of forest offering grand views of mountains, and then climb over Ghurchi- Lagna pass the highest point of the adventure, on top festooned with Buddhist prayer flags. After a time with glorious views then descend across a nice grassy fields into walnut tree groves to a steep and narrow valley for overnight stop at Chauta village, a small settlement with some shops, and basic lodges.

Day 11: Trek to Khaligaon 3,685 via Tharamara 3,270 m - 06 hrs.

From here onward getting closer to the end of the journey, after a pleasant overnight at Chauta village, as morning walk follows Sinja khola towards Bumra village and then it leads past a overhanging rock at a place called Kamra, where an important herbal medicinal mineral called Silaji is found around this areas. With few pleasant stops walk leads to a long descend to Sinja Khola, walking through Nyawre village, as our trek climb towards Tharamara ridge top, then continue uphill higher to reach Khaligaon for overnight stop, in of the beautiful spot offering fantastic views of landscapes with snow peaks.

Day 12: Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.

Morning transfer to Jumla airstrip for the flight to Nepalgunj, after boarding in small aircraft where short flight brings you at Nepalgunj for connecting flight of 50 minutes to reach back at Kathmandu. On reaching at Kathmandu airport, then transfer to your hotel with rest of the day at leisure with grand memories of Journey to Rara Lake trekking.

Day 14: Contingency or free day in Kathmandu for individual activities.

Tramping Himalaya Adventures reserves this spare or contingency day in Kathmandu, in case of flight delay and cancellation at Jumla, which can occur sometimes due to bad weather which is typical for Himalayan weather pattern. Hoping all goes well as per the itinerary days, where you can enjoy this extra day for your own individual activities and shopping or join in for another exciting tour

Day 15: Depart for international flight home ward bound or to respective countries
