‘trek and climb on remote and isolated areas of Khumbu to Mera Peak within scenic Inkhu valley’

Tramping Himalaya Adventures presents stunning adventure Mt. Baruntse Expeditions on the hidden corners east of Khumbu and west from Makalu areas towards south of Mt. Everest, a great walk and climb within pristine wilderness away from mainstream trekking trails of Everest. Mt. Baruntse Expeditions leads you on top above 7,129 meters high with sweeping panorama of world highest mountains from Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu as far towards Mt. Kanchenjunga in the eastern horizon with array of smaller peaks above 6,000 m.

Mt. Baruntse although below 8,000 m peaks, but the climb leads to tough efforts to reach its summit top truly a technical mountain to tackle where we have allocated maximum of twenty days for the climb as per the nature of the peak technical side. Mt. Baruntse Expeditions with 27 52 19 Latitude & 86 58 55 Longitude, a mountain of full scale Mountaineering Classification requires climbers with much experience on ice and rocks climbing to conquer the summit of Mt. Baruntse.

Mt. Baruntse Expeditions begins with an adventure taking a scenic short flight from Kathmandu to reach at Lukla within Khumbu areas of Everest, a busy town with its unique airstrip where most of the adventure and treks starts and ends at Lukla. Our journey continues away from Lukla leaving the main trail of Everest heading towards complete wilderness of natural surrounding within dense forest covered by rhododendron-magnolia-oaks-pines and fir trees with wonderful summer pastures and green meadows to pitch camps. Leaving the Lukla area and Chutanga forested areas heading for a climb to a high rocky ridge of  Naulekh and Kalo Himal facing tremendous scenery of landscapes and snow clad peaks to reach at hidden areas within Inku valley closed in alpine woodland around Thuli-Kharka and Tagnag small temporary settlements.

Trek finally heads towards our main destination at Baruntse base camp after walking past the route of Mera Peak on leaving the rich green vegetation and tree lines for arid and barren terrain of arctic landscapes and cold temperatures. Walk leads to scenic areas of Hongu valley around smaller glacial ponds called Panch Pokhari where  our trail heads further east to camp beneath the towering Mt. Baruntse, here with time for practice climb and ample acclimatization days before the Big Day to conquer the summit Mt. Baruntse. Within twenty days busy loading gears and ferrying to respective high camps where our leader and head climbing guide will fix the right day for the ascent as weather permitting with clear fine day to reach the summit with fabulous views of snow capped peaks. After a successful climb and triumph on top Mt. Baruntse heading back to Lukla using the same scenic route for flight to Kathmandu with outmost memorable adventure of a lifetime experience on Mt. Baruntse Expedition with strong support of Tramping Himalaya Adventures and its expert guides and staff.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: On arrival in Kathmandu meet our staff for transfer to hotel

On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuwan International Airport received by our staff and guide with warm welcome and greetings and then transfer to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city. After checking into your rooms getting refreshed from Jet-Lag, a quiet environment after getting refreshed join at main hall or in lobby where our guide will provide briefing on Mt. Baruntse Expeditions, treks-hotels with useful and necessary information. Evening includes group dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with folk culture program with various dances of Nepal while having your authentic Nepalese dinner with local entertainment.

Day 2 - 3: Two Days in Kathmandu preparation for Mt. Baruntse Expeditions.

We have allowed two full days to get organized with final preparations for Mt. Baruntse Expeditions, where every member will check and load the gears with time for optional sightseeing tour or just relax and save the energy for the great mountaineering adventure.

Day 4: Fly to Lukla 2,820 m 35 Minutes flight then Trek to Paiya 2730, 6 Hours Trek

Beautiful mountain flight to Lukla, The Lukla airport is located at a clearing atop a hill, and the short flight presents amazing views of the wonderful surroundings,  Open landing at the Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla, We will begin our trek to Paiya, We will start Jungle walk downhill to Surke village by amazing of Himalayas views, From here we will continue moving south cross the Chuto la pass before reaching the small village Paiya,

Day 5: Paiya to Panggom 2846 M 6 Hours Trek

Start from down hill from Paiya, we will reach a small bridge from where henceforth the trail turns a bit slippery, we will cross the Kari-La Pass, Walking through the rhododendron and bamboo forests on a narrow trail, Today’s trip we will also likely to be in the awestriking presence and the Duthkoshi valley, Then continue out trek to Panggom village settlers are depending on farming and trading, the day is extremely rich in natural beauty made even more gorgeous, .

Day 6: Panggom to Ramailo Danda 2863 M, 6 Hours Trek

We begin our trek, trekking out of Panggom, We will cross the Panggom-La Pass ascending on a steady path turning north we will cross the Ningsow Khola before reaching the Ningsow village then continue ascending then descending for a while to climb a little more to reach Ramailo Danda.

Day 7: Ramailo Danda to Chetra Khola 2800 M, 7 Hours Trek

Start the day with breakfast, The Journey begins on the trails up and down, The weather allows us can see the views of Mera Peak and Salpa, After up and down hill walk we will enter Makalu Barun National Park, It’s the eight National Park in the Himalayas of Nepal and it was established in 1992 as an eastern extension of the Sagarmath National Park, The protected area of the Makalu Barun National Park is a habitat for a wide diversity and flora and fauna species,

Day 8 Chetra Khola to Kathey 3691 M, 5 Hours Trek

Trek  begins towards the north on the main trail to Mera Peak, we will find ourselves alongside a trail next to the Majang Khola, and from here we shall  merge with another trail that moves alongside the Hinku Khola, Out trail moves staring ahead towards Tashing Ongma which has seasonal tea shops lining the main trail, Continuein our tre we will cross the bridge or the Sanu Khola before reaching Kothey

Day 9: Trek to Tagnag 4,360 m - 05 hrs

Adventure continues towards north east after leaving tree lines and green vegetation, as the walk progress reaching into a wide open valley within grazing land around scattered cattle herders shades at Gondishung 4,350 m near to our overnight stop at Tag-Nag. Gondishung with more than 200 years old small Gompa, walk continues for an hour to Tag-Nag for overnight stop, a temporary place with huts and shades houses a small lodge as tea house.

Day 10: Rest day at Tagnag for acclimatization.

An ideal and perfect place for rest day and as well for acclimatization before walking towards higher areas towards Mera Peak, this place offers several high hills for best views of surrounding mountains and valley.

Day 11: Trek to Khare 5,000 m near Mera-La near Mera Peak Base Camp - 04 hrs

After Tagnag with pleasant rest day, morning walk leads on moderate trail for few hours and then climb over moraine, damming Charpatti Tal (lake), that leads to a high area lined with rocks and cairns and small glacial lake, from here climb for a while and down downhill walk to Dig Kharka, and over boulder strewn hillside to Khare.

Day 12: Trek to Upper Hongu Valley 5,000m - 05 hrs.

On leaving tree-lines beyond Mera areas, walk across Mera-la above 5,493 m high pass to reach other side of Hongu Valley, with views of Chamling, Makalu and Baruntse. From the pass descend to a nice spot for lunch beside the Hongu Drangka, under the west face of Chamlang. After a short stop walk below Chamlang, and then gradual climb into Upper Hongu Valley the walk dominated with views of Lhotse and Everest, after two hours of good and tough trek reaching our campsite near moraine hills.

Day 13: Rest day at Panch Pokhara or Hongu Pokhari

Another rest day which allows a good break to pull back the strength back for the final adventure and challenge to the summit of Mt. Baruntse, either relax or climb smaller hills behind the camp for best views of the Hinku Glacier and the Mingbo-la

Day 14 Trek to Baruntse Base Camp 5,300m.

From this scenic campsite, morning walk follows eastward on faint and vague path, walking past Hongu glacier and moraine with views of surrounding mountains, includes South East Face of Ama-Dablam, Hongu and Amphu peaks. Walk finally reaches at Baruntse Base Camp after a hard climb and trek of 4-5 hours of tough walk with lunch break in between. Our base camp set close to Baruntse Glacier.

Day 15 Rest day for acclimatization and preparation

A necessary rest day for acclimatization and preparations for Mt. Baruntse climb, here our guide and leader will provide final briefing regarding the climb and technique skill required for the climb to the summit of Baruntse. Another rest day to get organized for the climb, here you can take short hike around this beautiful area within absolute wilderness in the harmony of mountain in complete bliss. Enjoy the free day for acclimatization and optional hike around unexplored area of this region with final preparations.

Day 16- 29 (15 days) Ascent of Baruntse summit and descend to Base Camp

Tramping Himalaya Adventures reserves a maximum of 20 days for the climb on top Mt. Baruntse with enough time to set up high camps from advance to Camp III to reach the summit, our expert guides and high altitude porters will ferry necessary gear to high camps and for the climb, and fixing ropes where required and making possible routes for the ascent to the top of Baruntse. During these days climb leads at very bottom of Barun Glacier, from where our climbing route starts. Baruntse lies hidden behind Peak 4 and in between the East and West Col. of Makalu. Mt Baruntse towers high at 7,129 meters, well hidden West of Makalu and South East of Everest and Khumbu areas, Baruntse peak with ridges forms an icy wall between Barun Valley, Hinko Valley and the Imjatse valley of the Khumbu area. After a tough hard climb using maximum of 3 camps after base camp to reach the technical summit top. With 20 days for the climb from Base Camp following moraine towards the summit of Mt. Baruntse at 7,129 meter. After an incredible adventure and overwhelming experience descend back safely towards Base Camp using few camps on this long descend.

Day 30 All members to re-group at Base Camp

After an adventurous and most technical climb descend back to Base Camp, on this day all climbing party and member including guide and staff should have reached at base camp, to assist packing equipments and checking each member health condition after the great classic climb and to organize departure from base camp to Lukla and Kathmandu. Here at base camp clean up the rubbish, picking up everything that has been brought leaving nothing except your foot prints behind.

Day 31 Cleaning up of base camp with packing for return journey.

Start packing climbing gears with proper disposing the garbage in designated sites, where SPPC (Sagarmatha Pollution Control) will check the camp and depositing the litter to take away from the base camp to disposal sites or back to Kathmandu.

Day 32 Trek to Tagnag - 07 hrs

After a great walk with climb of Mt. Baruntses heading back to Lukla on the same route to reach and camp at Tagnag for overnight a lovely spot within mountains and grand scenery of surrounding hills and peaks

Day 33 Trek towards Khothay 3,600.

We have set two days to reach at Khothay near Mera Peak base, from Hongu or Panch Pokharai camp return journey leads to pleasant walks without any problem of altitude gain, although the trail leads you with few ups and downs and then back into green surrounding within rich vegetations and tall trees on reaching at Khothay for overnight stop, a small cattle herder camp and shelter. Morning walk leads over Mera glacier, and to icy area for a while then descend to reach at Mera Base Camp after a good walk of 4 hours, with afternoon free at leisure.

Day 34 Trek to Thuli Kharka 4,200 m - 05 hrs

Morning walk continues leading into forest then with a steep climb on hills and continue walk on nice grassy meadow on the gradual path to reach our last camp of this trek at Thuli-Kharka

Day 35 Trek to Lukla - 06 hrs

Morning with last day trek of this marvelous adventure leads on same scenic trail and climb over Kalo Himal and Naulekh Himal and its high ridges crossing over Zatrwa Og, and Zatrwa-La with views of Dudh Kosi River valley and Karyolung then steep descend to Chutanga and finally ending the long walks back into Lukla in the comfort of nice and cozy lodge. In Lukla celebrate last night dinner among fellow trekkers, guides and porters after a fantastic victory on top Mt. Baruntse Expedition.

Day 37 In Kathmandu contingency and free day for individual activities

A spare and contingency day in Kathmandu we have reserved two days in case of flight delay and cancellation at Lukla due to unavoidable conditions like unfavorable bad weather conditions, which is some part of the adventure being in Himalayan region. Well as per the plan with normal flight time, this day to be used for your own individual activities and shopping souvenirs or join in for another exciting tour around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur for delightful sightseeing tour around world heritage sites and seeing more of Nepalese culture. During these days relax where guide and leader will submit reports of the expeditions to concern Nepal Government department.
